Resolution would define nuclear power as clean energy in Arizona

House Concurrent Resolution 2019 in the Arizona Legislature would define nuclear power as clean energy in regards to carbon dioxide and other atmospheric emissions:

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

Proposing an amendment to the constitution of Arizona; amending article XXII, Constitution of Arizona, by adding section 23; relating to nuclear power.


Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:
1.  Article XXII, Constitution of Arizona, is proposed to be amended by adding section 23 as follows if approved by the voters and on proclamation of the Governor:
23.  Clean energy sources; nuclear power
Section 23.  The use of nuclear reactors in the production of electric energy is considered to be clean energy technology insofar as the generation process does not emit carbon dioxide or other atmospheric pollutants.
2.  The Secretary of State shall submit this proposition to the voters at the next general election as provided by article XXI, Constitution of Arizona.

  1. Who knew it was so easy to make nuclear energy clean? Just make a resolution!

    The mining process? The waste storage process? All clean now.

    Wow, I'll bet that this bill was even pushed by environmentalists, and not by nuclear technology lobbyists at all. No carbon emissions? We're saved! Sounds like someone is trying to tip-toe around emissions regulations, but hey, if you don't mind being surrounded by the Camelback Mountains when they're full of nuclear waste, enjoy! I am so happy that my state does not border you, Arizona.

    Tell the people around 3 Mile Island and Chernobyl how lucky they are that there are no emissions from nuclear power plants. And let the people of Iran know that Arizona would be very pleased to help them with their nuclear program because it is so safe and non-threatening.
